This term, I will share with you my ‘vote of thanks’ to Mr Johnston on the occasion of his final assembly, held on 6th of December 2024.
I would like to thank the board, staff, students, members of the school community for this opportunity to say a few words about Mr Johnston.
The last time I was at the front of this stage was when we were celebrating the schools 50th birthday, so it is an honour to be back here, representing OPGA.
Old Peninsula Grammarians’ Association represents the school alumni in all its forms. Our members are past students, teachers, the football, cricket and soccer clubs.
Mr Johnston you have been, and still are, a great advocate for the important role OPGA can play in the school community. Past students continue their connection to the school as teachers, staff, coaches, parents and even members of the board.
You have always given us your time and the resources to help grow the association. You have provided the best Liaison Officer ever in Laura Vatousios, as well as a valuable archivist, Becca Smith. You have always opened your doors to the committee and the sporting clubs when we’ve needed it and for that, we thank you.
There is no doubt that our association has achieved more in the last 15 years than ever before, much of that, attributed to your guidance and sound advice along the way. I am going to use some Latin words from the school song written by one of your predecessors which I think is still as relevant today as it was then.
Mr Johnston
Oh celebramus te
Gratiea nostrae tibi dantur
Sit semper in flore
Alma mater laudamus te
Mr Johnston we celebrate you. Our thanks are given to you. May you continue to flourish. Alumni we praise you.
Please accept this gift as a token of our appreciation and thanks. (Chief’s Son Whiskey and glasses, engraved).
On behalf of OPGA, thank you.
