Welcome to 2024 - 'REACHING OUT'

Dear Alumni,

Welcome to 2024, a year filled with promise and opportunities for connection and growth within our OPGA family. As President, it brings me great pleasure to introduce this year's theme: 'Reaching Out'. It's a mantra we believe encapsulates the essence of our community – the willingness to extend a hand, forge connections, and embrace our shared heritage.

We have an exciting calendar of events planned for this year, including milestone reunions ranging from 1 to 50 years, a nostalgic Past Staff Morning Tea, and a special Toorak College/Peninsula Grammar Boarding reunion. I urge all our alumni to seize these opportunities, reconnect with old friends, and reminisce about the cherished moments we've shared. Term 1 event highlights can be found in the articles of this newsletter as well as the dates of our upcoming events for Term 2 and beyond.

To facilitate this sense of connection, I encourage you to visit oldpenconnect.com.au, our digital platform designed to bring together OPGA and fellow alumni. Share your life's journey, celebrate milestones such as marriages and births, and honour the memory of those who have left us but remain forever in our hearts.

OPGA remains committed to supporting our alumni sporting clubs, including cricket, soccer, and footy. We welcome suggestions for new activities or sports that could further engage our alumni and local community – your input is invaluable.

This year, we embark on a meaningful project: the rejuvenation of the Memorial Gardens adjacent to the school chapel. Stay tuned for concept plans and designs, as we seek your input and support to create a space that honors the past and embraces the future with tranquility and beauty.

We celebrated Foundation Day on February 13th, I ask that we take a moment to remember the passing of Robert (Bob) Brewster on January 27th. Bob, a founding staff member, was a true gentleman and mentor to many of us. Let us cherish the fond memories we have of him and the legacy he leaves behind.

I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the year ahead and all the connections to be made in Term 2 and beyond. Together, let's make 2024 a year of renewed connections, cherished memories, and shared achievements.

Warm regards,

David Clarke - President, OPGA ('82)
