Events and Reunions - 2023 Reflection and 2024 Dates
Old Peninsula Grammarians’ Association is Peninsula Grammar’s alumni association for past students and staff. Our mission is to give back to the school and alumni community and to keep our alumni members connected whether they completed their schooling last year or over 50 years ago.
2023 has been a fantastic year for OPGA, where we have seen greater reunion numbers and higher than ever engagement across our alumni network. We have hosted numerous alumni members at the school for tours and as guest speakers, including Eliza West (AFLW), Class of 2015, at the recent Colours Celebration evening. We participated in National History Month, organised by our archivist Becca Smith which saw a fantastic turnout and engagement level from current staff, past staff and alumni. We hosted Angela Scundi (Class of 2004) for a Chicago themed drama masterclass for our production students who are currently rehearsing for the 2023 version of the musical. Many alumni achievements were celebrated and shared with our broader school community, please follow us on social media for all the updates! Our social media engagement has increased and we have launched a new LinkedIn page to further reach our alumni members.
We are looking forward to another strong year ahead for our community, with an exciting alumni strategy for 2024 and beyond.
2023 Highlights
1 - OPGA Connecting Careers Day. Together with our Careers team, OPGA hosted the annual ‘Connecting Careers Day’ in March. With over 40 past students, staff and parents, our senior school students heard from a range of speakers from various industries and were inspired about their future pathways post Peninsula Grammar. The keynote speaker was Dale Stevenson ’05 who is a Past Olympian, Throws Coach for New Zealand and current High Performance Coach for Rugby Australia.
2 - Penturion Club Lunch (50+ year reunion for classes of 1972 and 1973)
In April, OPGA hosted the ‘Penturion Club Lunch’, welcoming our newest members to the club, who left school 50 years ago or more. We honoured both the Classes of 1972 and 1973 and it was wonderful to see old friendships renewed and memories shared.
3 - Class Reunions
OPGA hosted the 1, 5, 20, 30 and 40 year reunions in 2023 with the 10 year reunion postponed to March 2024. All reunions were well attended and had strong interest across the board. We encourage past staff to attend the 2024 reunions as our alumni members love seeing you all and reminiscing about their time under your care.
4 – Year 12 ‘Welcome to OPGA Lunch’.
We celebrated the newest members of OPGA at the Year 12 farewell lunch in October. Joined by our Old Peninsula Football Club contacts, OPGA hosted a BBQ lunch in the Commons to wish our year 12’s all the best with their exams and to formally welcome them to our wonderful association. Gifts were distributed, selected by the Prefect Group on behalf of the cohort.
5 – Spotlight on Alumni Series
This year, we commenced our ‘Spotlight on Alumni’ series, interviewing past students and staff and sharing their reflections and story since leaving Peninsula Grammar. Greg Hunt’s interview (Class of 1983) will be released soon! We will formally interview three further members of our community in 2024 and also conduct informal interviews with many of our alumni members to capture information about their time at school for archiving purposes. Please reach out if you would like to be part of this series!
Looking forward to 2024
OPGA are excited to announce the 2024 reunions, where we will celebrate the Classes of 2023, 2019, 2013, 2014, 2004, 1994, 1984, 1974 and prior (Penturion Club), as well as our International alumni boarding students, and past staff at an afternoon tea. New events for 2024 include a joint boarding house reunion with Toorak College, where we will invite all boarding students in the 60's, 70's and 80's to a venue in Mount Eliza for a wonderful afternoon of shared memories. We will also host interstate reunions in Sydney and Brisbane in June. More to come on these events!
