2024 has been another fantastic year for OPGA and as the Alumni Manager, I feel honoured to have had a front row seat in watching so many of our alumni members reconnect with Peninsula.
Sometimes, our industry can focus heavily on reunion attendance numbers, social media follows and opened emails but in fact, despite amazing ‘results’ this year, for me, the true value of what we do lies in the small interactions we have with our alumni members. It’s bumping into Mrs Barber in the supermarket and hearing all about her tutoring work and catch-ups with past colleagues. It is a visit in my office from Bob Arthur, Merron Cross, Doug Thring, Wes and alumni staff and getting updates about our community. It’s seeing people laughing together at reunions over shared memories of their time at school and listening to our alumni explain how their parents and grandparents contributed to the building of the school we love.
These intangible moments are what contribute to the sense of belonging we all feel for having attended Peninsula, whether it was last year or in year 1, 1961.
I would like to personally thank our entire alumni community for sharing your stories with me this year and we can’t wait for another strong year ahead as we welcome Mrs Leandra Turner, our fifth Principal of Peninsula Grammar.
See you in 2025,
